Overcome the Unfair Expectations on Kart Drivers
I’m banging out skills, tips and processes that, if you do them all, will inevitably make you some sort of freak god-driver and never-before-seen hero.
And what I don’t ever address is that to really nail most of them, you need attributes ready to go, that are higher skills than the thing I’m actually trying to advise you to do. I’m out of order!
So, for example, I recently wrote on listening to engine bogging and tyre scrub as a way to determine how close you are to the limit. It’s bloody helpful but you could very reasonably respond like this:
‘Nice advice but if I had the mental space to listen to all that going on, I would already be doing it!!!!’
So, what it takes to have the spare capacity to be in a position to analyse those sounds is more difficult than actually doing that listening. And if you have that capacity naturally, then I bet you aren’t reading this in the first place!.
NEVERTHELESS!!
Typical of people in racing, I reserve the right to make unreasonable and illogical requests of drivers. Somehow you still have to do it all!
So, here’s my attempt to help you out in getting the high-level attributes that you need in advance - so you can perform the slightly lower level and necessary skills I bang on about.
